Brewfest and crab pickin'

There was a beer festival in Leesburg today, so we gathered up some friends and headed out to enjoy a few brews. We drove out with Molly and Tim and met Pablo and Andrea there. The weather was gorgeous ~ sunny and warm, with a nice breeze. Owen was very good the entire time, and even fell asleep in my arms at one point. He took a short nap then in the stroller and went to bed early when we got home after he took a dip in his froggy pool. We picked up a 1/2 bushel of steamed crabs from The Dock and picked them 'til we could pick no more. We also had corn on the cob and baked potatoes. Pablo and Andrea brought pies and ice cream for dessert and Molly made lemon bars. We were all stuffed by the end of the evening. A good time was had by all.

Babygate

The time had come for us to buy a baby gate. I went out to Babies R Us last night to get it and Ben installed it tonight. I can already tell it's going to be pretty annoying, but I know it's a necessity.

Playdate with Sarah Catherine

My good friend Stephanie invited us over today for a playdate at her house. We took turns feeding the babies their lunches, then had lunch ourselves while they played. They did well sharing toys with one another. :) Then we got ready to hit the pool. It was a nice short walk over to the pool. We each had our baby floats ~ the babies had fun relaxing in them in the kiddie pool. Then when the lifeguards blew the whistle for break time, we jumped in the big pool with the little ones. They had a ball when we bounced in circles. I slacked on taking pictures at the pool, but Steph took one for me so I could show Ben how Owen liked the float. We had such a good time we lost track of time! I got on the road around 4pm and made it home by 5:15, just in time for Owen's dinner.

Stuck and unstuck

Crawling wound

Now that Owen is mobile, he's decided to pull himself up on everything his crawling brings him into contact with. The other day he crawled over to his Exersaucer, pulled himself up and quickly fell down, leaving himself with a scrape on his nose. Poor guy. I'm sure this is just the first of many more to come!

Owen is crawling!!!

He wanted to make Father's Day extra special for his Daddy, so Owen waited until today to crawl for the first time.

Happy Father's Day

To celebrate Ben's first Father's Day, we decided to take a family trip to the National Zoo. The weather was perfect ~ partly sunny but not too hot. We had so much fun pointing out the animals to Owen. We think he liked the elephants and gorillas the best. After a couple of hours of walking around the zoo, Owen fell fast asleep about two minutes into the drive home.

Grandma's Visit

My mom came to visit for a few days from Florida. We had such a fun time! We took a day trip to Hershey to see Great Grandma and some friends and then relaxed here in Virginia for the rest of the time she was here. She had to leave today and we already miss her and look forward to the next visit in July when Grandpa comes up too.

9-month check-up

Today was Owen's 9-month check-up. I was instructed by Ben (since he couldn't attend due to a work meeting) to cover our entire list of questions and to take detailed notes on what the doctor said. I forgot to take notes, but did listen intently to what the doctor told me.

Owen is a BIG BOY! Here are his 9-month stats:

Weight - 23 lbs, 4.5 oz - 90th percentile
Height - 29 & 3/4 inches - 90th percentile
Head - 18 & 1/2 inches - 90th percentile

Ben is installing the new carseat tomorrow. Our baby boy is growing up!!!

Skinny dipping

Pool playdate with Sarah Catherine

Today Stephanie and her baby Sarah Catherine came over to go to the pool with us. First the mommies had lunch while the babies played. Owen kept tackling Sarah Catherine! But she is one tough cookie.

After lunch, we got all packed up and headed out to the pool. We played in the water for awhile, then Sarah Catherine had some lunch. She shared her puffs with Owen.

Before we left the pool we decided to get some pictures of the babies near the fountain in the shallow end of the pool. Unfortunately, Sarah Catherine didn't really want to go back in the water.

I took a few more shots of Owen, and then we packed up.

When we got back to our house, the babies played for a little while longer so the mommies could enjoy some brownies. yum! :)

Laundry

When Mommy did the laundry today she thought it would be cute to take a few pictures of Owen in the basket. You know, since he won't fit in there forever. :)

A Taste of Reston

Yesterday we went to A Taste of Reston and had a great time sampling food from various restaurants. We ended the afternoon with ice cream and gave Owen a few tastes. He loved it, of course. He also got a balloon at the event. It provided endless entertainment for both Owen and Riley when we got home. :)

Mom let me lick the spoon...

Owen and I baked brownies today. I let him lick the batter off the spoon ~ he loved it! Unfortunately for him, that's the only taste of brownies he'll get. :)

Endless bouncing in the Exersaucer

This went on and on today ~ he was having so much fun!

Hanging out

Owen and I had a great time today at the pool with my old college roommate, Ashley, and her son Ricky. All the splashing around wore Owen out and he slept for 2 hours this afternoon. When he woke up his hair was so cute and messy, so I took this picture:

Playdate with Cooper

Kamber and her baby Cooper came over yesterday for lunch and some playtime. Cooper showed off his crawling skills while Owen mainly fussed. But when we brought the cameras out, Owen was all smiles.

A little bit crabby

My good friend Jen gave us this adorable outfit for Owen. I was waiting for the perfect day to put it on him, and Tuesday I got my opportunity.

We woke up yesterday and had a bottle, Mommy had breakfast. Then at 9am, Mommy took Owen up for his nap. When I got downstairs, I started my workout on the elliptical with the monitor on in the background. About 5 minutes into the workout, Owen starts babbling away and doesn't stop!

After about 15 minutes it was apparent that he wasn't going to nap, so I went up and brought him down to the basement, set him down on my exercise mat with toys and he watched me finish my workout. Then we got ready to go to my friend Stephanie's for our playdate.

I figured he would be "crabby" since he didn't have his morning nap, so I put him in the outfit from Jen. He only slept for 25 minutes on the way to and from Steph's house. And surprisingly, he wasn't all that crabby. :)
