I love my Owen

Walking in to preschool Owen stopped and wrote his name in the snow using his finger.

So proud.

I go to pick them up at 1pm and we're rushing to get to the car because we need to be at Vivian's cardiologist appointment by 1:30pm and it's already 1:15. I'm buckling Vivi into her carseat when I notice that Owen has stopped to make a snow angel.

He's not wearing snow pants.

I finish buckling Vivi in, race over to grab him and put him in the car. As I'm buckling his seat belt, I ask him in a frustrated, slightly annoyed tone: "Owen! You don't have snow pants on, and now your pants are going to be all wet. What were you thinking?!"

"I was thinking I wanted to make a snow angel, Mommy."

I love when he does/says stuff like this because it just makes me stop and smile.

I love this kid.

Boys and girls

{Have a ton of pictures to sort through from our Wisconsin/Minnesota trip this past weekend. I'll be back-dating later today once the kids nap. But I thought I'd post this quick conversation I had with Owen this morning in the meantime.}

Me: {brushing Riley} Is Riley a boy or a girl?
O: I think Riley is a boy.
Me: That's right, bud!

{a few seconds later}

O: Mommy! Our house has 3 boys and 2 girls!

Owen speak

Lately I find myself jotting down little things Owen says that I find funny. I write them on whatever scrap of paper I have lying around, or my UYH (use your handwriting) app on the ipad. Here are a few from the past two weeks.

(During bathtime one night)
Me: Owen, we must cut your nails! Look how long they are!
Owen: Yeah. They growed.

(Trying to get him upstairs for bed)
Me: Okay, ten more minutes and then we're going up for bed. Deal?
Owen: Deal.
Me: Let's shake on it.
(we shake hands)
Owen: It's nice to meet you! *beaming*

(Approaching 5pm and I haven't started cooking anything yet)
Me: I should start making dinner.
Owen: No, we're just going to let Daddy make dinner. (this is how much my son enjoys my cooking)
Me: Good thinking. I'll tell him when he gets home.

(Sitting at the breakfast bar one morning)
Owen had just said something that surprised me (can't remember what it was now) and I told him he was so smart.
Me: What does it mean to be smart?
Owen: You say something to your mommy and then you be smart.

Talking

We've noticed (Ben especially) how certain words that Owen says will sound to us like other words. For example, he has a hard time making the "k" sound. So when you say to him, "Owen, look at all the kids!", "tits" is what he repeats back to you. Ben is trying to get him to say, "Nice kids". AKA, nice tits. That's my husband's humor for ya.

Tonight Ben was taking Owen up for his bath and his blue elephant towel was still in the dryer. Ben asked when I would bring it up. I said, "It's in the dryer. I'll bring it up to you in a second." Owen repeated, "suck it". I, of course, heard our son say "second". Ben heard what he thought was hilarious.

As you can tell from this post, we're having to watch what we say very carefully these days. Let me just say that I'm trying to take my friend Andrea's approach to swearing. Cheese and rice!

Tractor, bus, copter

Everything these days seems to revolve around tractors, buses, and Owen's new helicopter ('copter in his own words). They are his favorite things. :)

Talking up a storm lately

Owen is constantly amazing us with his ever-expanding vocabulary. So far he says the following words:

~ truck
~ bus
~ cheese (his favorite food)
~ shoes
~ socks
~ light
~ ears
~ boom
~ ma (his word for milk)
~ Da for Ben (he doesn't quite know ma-ma yet for me) :(

He understands a ton more words, but those are the ones he actually says on a regular basis.

Tonight he added another word to this list. I came home from church to see Owen covered in mac 'n cheese. Daddy's attempt at feeding him resulted in most of the macaroni stuck between Owen and his highchair. It was his bedtime, so I said to Owen, "Are you read to go take a bath?". He looked right at me and said, "bath?". It was beyond cute.

We made several attempts to capture him saying it in a video clip, but were not successful. Hopefully we'll be able to catch the next word since new ones are coming out of his mouth every day!
